Wall Coverings Made from Natural Leather Cowhide or Leather Tiles
Covering a wall with leather can create a very warm and inviting space. It can also present interior designers with quite a challenge, because the natural leather needs to be properly prepared in order to make it suitable for use as a wallcovering. The leather must be backed with a backing material that will allow it to be pasted to the wall without allowing any puckering. The finished project should be soft and smooth, just as the original leather was before it was processed.
Also, a moisture barrier must be sandwiched in between the backing material and the leather. This is to prevent any adhesive from seeping through to the leather, as that could stain or otherwise damage it.
We have worked hard for many years to develop techniques that allow us to apply a wide variety of backings and finishes while still maintaining the original look and feel of any piece we receive. Recently, we received a roll of natural leather cowhide. It needed to be backed without any seams. As you can see from the photos, it was a very large piece!
We are able to work with materials up to 120 inches wide, so that was not a problem for us. We are proud to be the only source for backing solutions on wide-width fabrics.
Here are some before and after photos of the project. Also included are some photos of other leather projects.
There are some square dark blue leather tiles that were used in a project for a custom wallcovering, and also some white leather tiles that were arranged in a unique mosaic pattern which ended up looking really great!
You can see that our backing processes do not affect the texture of the face of the leather. Look at the photo of the quilted leather piece below! The finished project with the backing applied is just as bumpy and textured as it was when it arrived in our facility.
We would be very happy to help you with your leather project. Using leather as a wallcovering can be a lot easier than you think, as long as the material is properly prepared ahead of time. That's where we come in! Give us a call today, or use our online order form to get started.
